  • Modifies the object non-destructively.
    • This means the original object state is still accessible
  • To add a modifier
    • Select an object
    • Go to the wrench icon, which is the Modifier tab.
    • Add a modifier
  • To remove a modifier, click the X in the top right corner
  • You can bake the effects of the modifier into the object, making it a destructive operation.
    • Drop down menu, choose apply
      • Hotkey: Ctrl + a
  • You can duplicate modifiers
    • Drop down menu, choose duplicate
    • Hotkey: Shift + d
  • You can stack modifiers
    • It is stacked from top to bottom
      • Top-most modifiers affect first
  • Buttons at the top will be found on all modifiers

Icons

  • There are icons on next to objects
    • Viewport visibility
      • Eye icon
    • Render visibility
      • Camera icon
  • There is a filter at the top to show icons in the outliner
    • Such as the arrrow icon for selectable

 

Visibility

  • Hide selected objects
    • Hotkey: h
  • Unhide selected objects
    • Hotkey: alt + h

 

Selectable

  • Add the arrow icon in the outliner
  • Toggle it on and off

 

Isolate Select - Local View

  • Isolate Selected Object
    • Blender calls it local view
    • Hotkey: /
      • On keyboard or numerical keypad
    • View -> Local View -> Toggle Local View

Collections

  • Scenes always start with a default collection.
    • Relatively new concept
    • Root Scene Collection
      • Cannot be delete
      • Cannot be renamed
  • The default collection cannot be deleted
  • Objects will be added to scenes where the collection is active.
    • If Scene Collection is selected, object will be added there
    • If Collection is selected, object will be added there
  • Can add new collection with icon on top right of outliner
    • or right click an empty space and create a new collection.
    • Also by having objects selected
      • Hotkey: m
        • New collection
  • To rename an object in the outliner
    • double click and rename
    • Press F2 and rename
  • Can delete a collection
    • Hotkey: x
    • Hotkey: Delete
    • Objects in the collection will go to the parent...

  • Can drag out the manipulator and transform menus
  • For manipulator precision
    • Can hold Ctrl to go be increments
    • Shift to go be smaller values
    • While still holding the right mouse button, type in the value in the number pad.
  • Dimensions field is related to scale
    • Another representation of it.

  • You can duplicate with the copy and paste command
    • In Blender, select the object, in 3D Viewport, you choose Copy Objects Ctrl + c
      • Then choose Paste Objects Ctrl + v
    • They are copied and pasted in the same location.
      • See it in the outliner
      • Move it to see it
  • You can use the duplicate command to work on the object selected.
    • in 3D viewport Object -> Duplicate Objects
      • Hotkey: Shift + d
    • The difference is that you can move the object right away as if you pressed the g hotkey, which is the grab command.

Reset (Clear)

  • Reset transformation values to default.

    • Translation (move), and rotate back to zero
    • Scale back to one.
  • Transform side bar on the right of the 3D viewport

    • Hotkey: n
  • Reset is called clear in Blender

    • Located in 3D Viewport menu:
      • Object -> Clear -> Location
        • Hotkey: alt + g
      • Object -> Clear -> Rotation
        • Hotkey: alt + r
      • Object -> Clear -> Scale
        • Hotkey: alt + s
  • Can reset all by right clicking in the transform side bar and choosing Reset All to Default Values for Move (Location,) Rotation, and Scale individually.

    • Can do the same thing in the Properties editor.
  • Hotkeys for manipulators

    • Select Box
